Mark Ebert Løvendahl was born in North Jutland, Denmark, in 1999.
Think of September. The forest changes color. Leaves fade and the temperature falls. A quiet landscape of harmonious compositions. Heavy horizons, haze-covered fields, the constant roar of the sea, and days that end as we reminisce in the wind of twilight. Large clouds bear ominous weather.
These scenes mirror the landscapes of my childhood as I remember them. They become a nostalgic image of something I miss, a snapshot of the world I knew and was shaped by. In a world where everything changes and nothing remains the same as yesterday, I try to understand where I come from and how I want to move within this reality. My works, reflections of the weather and landscapes of North Jutland, have become a way to ground myself. They offer an opportunity to recall a world where closeness, slowness, peace, and time were ever-present—a world where we had time to be with ourselves and with others.”
Mark Ebert Løvendahl is captivated by the process of life—the constant speed imposed upon us, the endless tasks, the arrangements to attend, the meetups and projects that often never amount to anything. We strive to do it all, yet from time to time we must accept loss. In response to this, Mark has chosen an uncompromising method of painting that requires time—a process that demands patience and cannot be rushed. A process with no shortcuts, where rain and wind determine the paint’s expression on the canvas. This choice is a complete image of how Ebert intends to live his life.
All of his works, despite their differences, share a common origin in nature, in doubt and melancholy, yet they also capture moments of hope and uplift. The monochromatic, minimalistic style is an attempt to avoid noise. This stillness is essential, intended to evoke reflection and invite the viewer to slow down and look inward.
