Escat Projects presents Dansa Mediterrània, an exhibition by ELIURPI bringing moving image and sculpture into dialogue with the rhythms of the Mediterranean. The project forms part of City Screen 2026, LOOP’s programme of video art presentations across galleries, studios and independent spaces in Barcelona and its surrounding area.

The movement of seaweed, water and light provides the starting point for an exploration of nature, material and perception. Through film, ELIURPI observes a landscape in continuous transformation, where each subtle shift reveals new forms. The moving image invites us to linger over barely perceptible gestures and recognise within them the beginnings of a sculptural language.

Founded in Barcelona in 2010 by Elisabet Urpí Ràfols and Nacho Umpiérrez Fripp, ELIURPI works across sculpture, installation and image. Using natural materials such as raffia, linen and wood, the duo explores the expressive possibilities of texture, lightness and volume, establishing a dialogue with the surrounding space.

In Dansa Mediterrània, the projection is presented alongside a natural raffia sculpture whose curved forms are suspended within a slender structure. Fine threads, folded fibres and the intervals between its elements extend the sense of movement running through the film. Light passes through the piece, revealing its layered surfaces, while the viewer’s changing position brings its forms into different relationships.

The exhibition traces a passage between observed and suggested movement: from water to image, from image to material, and from material to the viewer’s experience. The dance of the Mediterranean finds a continuation in sculpture, creating space for slow, attentive looking.

The presentation at Escat Projects enters into dialogue with Metàfora sensorial, ELIURPI’s exhibition opening on 12 November at Escat Gallery’s Trafalgar space. Together, the two exhibitions offer complementary encounters with the duo’s practice, connected by a shared sensitivity to natural materials, landscape and the rhythms of the sea.
