London United Kingdom, b. 1970
Originally from Spain and based in London, Beñat Olaberria is an abstract painter whose practice delves into the undefined territories of memory and perception. Holding an MA in Fine Art from the City & Guilds of London Art School, his work explores spaces that resist representation — visually forgotten, fragmented, and without clear form.
Through impulsive black marks, geometric fragments, and layered gestures of paint, charcoal, and dirt, Beñat records intimate, indeterminate moments in time. His process balances control and spontaneity, allowing each piece to emerge organically from the tension between impulse and reflection. These ambiguous works invite viewers to inhabit their incompleteness and find personal meaning within them.
Beñat’s work has been exhibited internationally, with solo shows in Spain, Switzerland, and the UK, and group exhibitions across Europe, Asia, and North America. His paintings form part of private collections worldwide, reflecting a visual language rooted in exploration, uncertainty, and the quiet depth of the undefined.
