Amela Rasi (b. 1986, Saarbrücken, Germany) is a contemporary artist based in Munich whose work explores identity, human relationships, and the ways in which personal experiences shape individual development. As the daughter of migrants from the former Yugoslavia, she grew up between German and Bosnian cultures, an experience that continues to inform the conceptual foundations of her practice.
Rasi’s paintings are inspired by human interaction and the constant evolution of identity. Her early Identity series emerged from personal reflections on belonging, memory, and self-discovery, while also incorporating the stories and experiences of others. Through flowing networks of lines, she visualised identity as an ongoing process—an accumulation of experiences, encounters, and influences that develop throughout a lifetime.
Over time, her work evolved towards a broader exploration of interpersonal connection. In The Merging of Two Identities, Rasi focuses on the transformative moments when two individuals meet and profoundly influence one another. The visual language shifts from linear structures to soft, permeable abstract forms that overlap, interact, and coexist, reflecting the fluid nature of human relationships.
Colour plays a central role in her practice. By combining vivid and seemingly contrasting hues, Rasi highlights the uniqueness of different personalities while revealing the harmony that can emerge through connection. Working with acrylic paint applied in multiple translucent layers, often complemented by oil pastel accents, she creates compositions that balance depth, movement, and emotional resonance.
Through abstraction, Rasi invites viewers to reflect on identity not as a fixed condition, but as a living process shaped by encounter, exchange, and shared experience.
