    Alicia Gimeno
    Biography

Alicia Gimeno (Barcelona, Spain, 1989) is a contemporary artist whose practice is rooted in gesture, contemplation, and a deep connection to nature. Drawing inspiration from calligraphy, Eastern philosophy, and the organic world, she creates refined abstract works that explore the relationship between movement, energy, and inner awareness.

From an early age, Gimeno was fascinated by handwriting, brushstrokes, and the expressive potential of the written mark. This interest eventually led her to the study of Eastern calligraphy, where she discovered a form of expression that transcends language and meaning. In her work, the gesture itself becomes the message—a direct manifestation of presence, intention, and energy.

Working with a restrained palette and often incorporating botanical pigments and natural materials, Gimeno does not seek visual excess. Instead, her paintings invite moments of stillness and introspection. Through fluid, calligraphic forms, she encourages viewers to reconnect with nature and to reflect on their place within a larger living system.

Central to her practice is the concept of Qì (氣), the vital energy that animates all things. Each brushstroke becomes a record of movement and presence, capturing a fleeting yet essential expression of life. Her work is equally informed by concepts from Japanese aesthetics and Eastern thought, including Wabi-Sabi, the appreciation of imperfection and transience, and Ma (間), the meaningful space that exists between forms.

Balancing spontaneity with contemplation, Gimeno creates works that function as visual meditations. Through gesture, rhythm, and silence, her paintings explore the invisible connections between nature, consciousness, and the human experience, offering spaces for reflection, presence, and quiet discovery.
