Bea Sarrias is a Barcelona-based artist whose paintings explore the relationship between architecture, light and the experience of inhabiting a space. Drawing on twentieth-century American realism, her practice combines precise perspective, carefully balanced colour and controlled brushwork to reveal the atmosphere of modernist interiors.
Her work takes inspiration from buildings by architects including José Antonio Coderch, Antonio Bonet Castellana, Mies van der Rohe, Le Corbusier, Pierre Koenig and Richard Neutra. Architecture becomes a means of expressing light, tracing its passage across surfaces and revealing how it shapes our perception of space.
Although human figures are absent from her paintings, their presence is suggested through objects, furnishings and the quiet traces of everyday life. These seemingly unoccupied interiors evoke memory and intimacy, inviting viewers to imagine the lives unfolding beyond the frame.
In 2019, Sarrias developed INSIDE at NATO’s new headquarters in Brussels, creating a pictorial portrait of the building that sought to convey the human life within its architecture. Her work has been exhibited in Barcelona, Madrid, New York, Oslo, Malmö and Brussels, and is held in collections including the Mies van der Rohe Foundation, Open Earth Foundation, Eileen S. Kaminsky Family Foundation and SAFFCA.
