    Jeff Servos
    Biography

Jeff D. Servos (b. 1986) is a Canadian-born artist currently based in Chicago, whose multidisciplinary practice encompasses painting, sculpture, and poetry. Through this diverse range of mediums, Servos creates a personal lexicon that reflects his evolving relationship with his environment. His work often explores the dualities of permanence and change, drawing attention to the subtle, often overlooked emotions embedded in everyday experiences. Central to his process is the interaction between material and surroundings: by working directly on the floor, he allows his materials to absorb dust, debris, and the inevitable passage of time, embedding his physical environment into the very fabric of his creations.

Although his formal engagement with the fine arts began later in life, Servos’ connection to creative traditions runs deep. His grandfather, both a watercolorist and an architect, left a lasting imprint on him, inspiring a lifelong curiosity and a drive to explore. This personal connection to art, combined with his own determination, led him to embark on a five-year, self-directed study of art, theory, and technique. During this period of immersion, he explored a wide array of artistic movements and practices, refining his skills while expanding his conceptual approach.

Servos’ admiration for post-war artists and architects—figures such as Antoni Tàpies, Frank O’Hara, and Le Corbusier—deeply informs his work. Their influence can be seen in his attention to materiality, diaristic writing, and honest sensibility throughout his work. Servos’ work stands as a dialogue between past and present, where historical references merge with contemporary introspection.

This blend of influences, technical expertise, and personal reflection has allowed Servos to carve out a unique space in the contemporary art scene. His work is distinguished by its authenticity and directness, making his artistic voice both recognizable and resonant.
