Biography
Mareo (Mario Rodríguez Echeverry, b. 1981, Mexico City) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Barcelona whose practice explores the relationship between light, space, perception, and consciousness. Raised in Colombia and trained in architecture, design, and fine arts, he has developed a distinctive visual language that spans painting, sculpture, installation, and public art.
Light is both the material and conceptual foundation of Mareo’s work. Through geometric forms, layered structures, and immersive environments, he investigates themes of transformation, energy, connection, and the invisible forces that shape human experience. His works often function as portals—spaces that invite contemplation and encourage viewers to reflect on the relationship between the physical and the immaterial.
Influenced by architecture and spatial thinking, Mareo approaches each work as an experience rather than an object. Whether through painting, sculpture, digital media, or large-scale installations, he creates compositions that explore thresholds between matter and light, presence and absence, the individual and the collective.
Over the course of his career, Mareo has presented more than sixteen solo exhibitions and participated in numerous international exhibitions, art fairs, and site-specific projects across Europe, North America, Latin America, the Middle East, and Asia. His work has been exhibited in venues including Palazzo Ferrero (Italy), Valletta Contemporary (Malta), Times Art Museum (Beijing), and the Istanbul Triennial, among others.
His works are held in private and institutional collections internationally and continue to expand a practice dedicated to exploring how art can generate moments of awareness, connection, and transformation.
