Biography
Matthew van Liessum (1989) is a Dutch artist who lives and works in Antwerp. His abstract paintings are characterized by gestural energy, compositional balance, and a strong sense of movement. Rooted in the legacy of Abstract Expressionism while informed by contemporary visual culture, his practice embraces spontaneity, fluidity, and experimentation.
A self-taught artist, van Liessum approaches painting intuitively, allowing each work to develop without a predetermined structure.
