Biography
Salvita Salim De Corte is a Bali-born artist and actor of Indonesian, German, and Indian descent. Raised in a creative household by artist parents, she began painting as an act of catharsis following the death of her father, himself a painter. After inheriting his studio, along with the brushes and blank canvases he left behind, painting became a way of responding to loss and exploring the emotional complexity of human relationships.
Her work centers on portraits and intertwined bodies whose identities are composites of people encountered throughout her life. Their faces and figures are shaped by emotional states rather than literal representation, emerging through a liminal space between memory, intuition, and lived experience. These sensations are also reflected in her carefully considered colour palettes. The works presented in Neighbor introduce her recent exploration of natural indigo pigments, marking the beginning of what she describes as her blue period.
