Biography
Denis Ymeri (b. 1990, Tirana, Albania) is a Barcelona-based visual artist whose practice spans painting and sculpture. His work explores the relationship between matter, memory, space, and time, drawing inspiration from prehistoric art, ancient structures, monoliths, and elemental forms of human expression.
Ymeri studied Painting and Multimedia at the University of Arts in Tirana, where he later completed a Master’s degree in Multimedia. From 2021 to 2023, he continued his training in Sculpture at Escola Massana in Barcelona, developing an interdisciplinary practice that brings painting into dialogue with sculpture and material experimentation.
His work is characterized by an interest in structure as something both stable and vulnerable—capable of transformation, fracture, and erosion. Through tactile surfaces, traces, cracks, and imperfections, Ymeri investigates the tension between order and chaos, permanence and change. His process is rooted in observation and slowness, approaching art-making as a space for contemplation in contrast to the speed and saturation of contemporary life.
Ymeri has participated in artist residencies at Casa Aymat Espai de Creació in Sant Cugat del Vallès and Piramidón Centre d’Art Contemporani in Barcelona. His work has been presented in exhibitions at Piramidón, Centre Grau-Gariga d’Art Tèxtil Contemporani, 6A Galeria d’Art, and La Lonja in Zaragoza, where he participated in Cómo construimos la Colección Bassat.
He currently lives and works in Barcelona.
